K9 Power - Super Fuel™

Many dogs today lead very active lives, from serving in the military or on the police force, to hunting, to participating in sports of various kinds. These dogs need specialized diets, and they need a specialized supplement to complement their dietary regimen. K9 Super Fuel™ is such a supplement. We start with milk protein isolate as the ingredient present in highest concentration. It is a completely balanced protein that contains the branched-chain amino acids, leucine and isoleucine, important for optimal muscle growth and activity. Milk protein isolate also has been shown to increase bone density by promoting bone growth and preventing bone breakdown, and it has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in the body.

Fat sources used in a performance formula of this type are critically important. Salmon oil powder is a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids that are anti-inflammatory and that play a role in ensuring optimal health of the heart, liver, brain, and nervous system. The primary omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon oil powder are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Research has linked these two fatty acids to a variety of health benefits as they suppress the body’s inflammatory response by reducing concentrations of pro-inflammatory chemicals produced by the immune cells.

A healthy gut microbiota is important for the proper functioning of the performance dog. Agave nectar powder is a natural source of the prebiotic, inulin, which positively impacts the gut microbiota towards a more healthful population.

Beta-alanine, found mostly in skeletal muscle, combines with histidine in the body to form carnosine, a muscle buffer needed during intense exercise to overcome the development of an acidic pH that leads to muscle fatigue.

Creatine (as the monohydrate form), found mostly in skeletal muscle and brain tissue, helps facilitate the recycling of ATP in muscle and brain tissue. It contributes to increased muscle mass, helps boost anaerobic strength, supports cognitive function, improves muscle recovery time, and boosts energy and endurance.

Icelandic kelp powder is rich in antioxidants such as carotenoids and flavonoids as well as beta-glucans and mannan-oligosaccharides, all of which support the gut microbiota.

Betaine (as the hydrochloride form), also known as trimethylglycine, improves body composition and helps promote muscle gain due to its ability to promote protein synthesis in the body. It also aids in promoting optimal cardiac function, has anti-inflammatory effects, aids liver function and detoxification, aids digestion, and helps relieve muscle soreness.

L-citrulline (as the malate form in a ratio of 1:1) is a non-essential amino acid that helps the body rid itself of harmful substances such as the amino acid breakdown product, ammonia. It is a vasodilator and aids in building muscle. DL-malate enhances energy production from nutrients, thus enhancing work performance.

Another fat source found in Super Fuel™, safflower oil powder, contains high concentrations of the omega-6 fatty acid, linoleic acid, which has been shown to optimize the circulation of blood throughout the body, support immune function, and enhance muscle growth.

Two functional ingredients are included in Super Fuel™ to help optimize bone and joint health of the performance dog. These include hyaluronic acid, which supports the natural lubricating factors in synovial fluid around joints, and chondroitin sulfate, which preserves cartilage, promotes flexibility, and aids in controlling the body’s natural inflammatory responses.

ProbioSEB Duo™ is a synbiotic with a variety of probiotic microorganisms along with the prebiotic, short-chain fructooligosaccharides. The probiotic organisms include Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus coagulans, and Lactobacillus sporogenes, three microbes believed to contribute to gut and immune health. The prebiotic component serves as a readily available food source for the probiotic microbes in the ingredient, in addition to those healthful microbial species residing in the gut. Synbiotics support and enhance the resident microbiota in the large intestine of the dog and, as a result, positively impact immune health and cognitive function.

We add beta berries powder, blueberry powder, and citrus bioflavonoids to Super Fuel™ as they contain phytonutrients such as polyphenols, anthocyanins, resveratrol, and carotenes, all of which have strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. L-glutamine is used to build muscle mass and speed recovery from exercise.

L-taurine is an amino sulfonic acid with important functionality in the heart and brain.

For example, broccoli sprout powder provides additional antioxidant protection for the performance dog due to sulforaphane, a unique substance found in only a limited number of ingredients. Camelina meal is a unique source of plant-derived omega-3 fatty acids that aid digestive health. Chicken powder contains a well-balanced amino acid profile that supports many metabolic functions within the body. It is also a good source of fat, minerals, and B-complex vitamins, and together with pork liver powder and whole egg powder, makes Super Fuel™ highly palatable to the dog. A blend of natural mixed tocopherols serves to neutralize free radicals formed in the body. They also provide emulsifiers and chelating agents for complete protection against rancidity, contributing to supplement stability and shelf-life. Stabilized rice bran is responsible for providing proper texture and flow characteristics to the supplement.
