How To Use Our Total Hydration & Performance Formula
1 Scoop of Powder Contains:
In supplements of this type, amino acids are critical in allowing the dog to achieve its maximal performance potential. In that regard, we start with L-citrulline malate, a non-essential amino acid that helps the body rid itself of harmful substances such as the amino acid breakdown product, ammonia. Toxic compounds like ammonia can seriously jeopardize a dog’s potential work performance. L-citrulline malate is a vasodilator, and aids in building up muscle. The DL-malate component enhances energy production from nutrients, thus enhancing work performance by the dog.
Beta-alanine is an amino acid found mostly in skeletal muscle that, in the body, combines with histidine to form carnosine, a muscle buffer needed during intense exercise to overcome the development of an acidic pH that leads to muscle fatigue, a major cause of less than optimal work performance.
Betaine hydrochloride is a compound that aids in joint recovery from stressors by virtue of the fact that it increases the concentration of S-adenosylmethionine, the specific compound that elicits the effect. Also, it helps maintain glutathione concentrations because, when glutathione concentrations decrease, more free radicals are produced that stimulate NF-kappa-beta. Betaine serves to keep NF-kappa-beta inactive, thus diminishing the negative effects of free radicals, compounds that negatively impact work performance by the dog.
L-leucine is the amino acid most associated with maintaining and building muscle.
Creatine monohydrate helps facilitate recycling of ATP in muscle and brain tissue. It has many roles: (a) it contributes to increased muscle mass; (b) it helps boost anaerobic strength; (c) it supports cognitive function; (d) it improves muscle recovery time; and (e) it boosts energy and endurance.
L-theanine is a unique amino acid found primarily in green and black tea and in some mushroom species. It is known for its ability to ease anxiety and stress and to improve the function of the body’s immune system to decrease inflammation in the intestinal tract.
Green tea extract offers excellent antioxidant protection and enhances energy production in the body.
Sodium chloride and potassium chloride play key roles in contraction of cardiac and skeletal muscle. They serve to maintain a healthy water balance and a healthy blood flow in the body. Optimal cardiovascular health, nerve function, and muscle function are dependent on their presence in the nutrition provided to the dog.
L-threonine promotes the development of healthy muscles and supports high activity levels of the working/exercising dog.
Phosphatidylserine is a phospholipid, a fatty substance that helps transmit messages between nerve cells in the brain. When provided in supplement form, it helps increase exercise capacity and improve athletic performance. It helps reduce muscle damage and decreases muscle soreness and protects against an increase in concentrations of blood cortisol, a stress hormone whose concentration increases as a result of intense training.
Acetyl L-carnitine hydrochloride is an amino acid that has the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, which aids in transport of fat in the body into blood cells, helping the body to produce energy and aid in nutrient metabolism. This amino acid supports cardiovascular health, muscle movement, energy production, and cognitive function, all of which are important in achieving optimal performance of the working dog.
L-lysine hydrochloride powder and L-tryptophan help promote and support muscle development, thus supporting high activity levels in the working/exercising dog.
L-glutamine is used to build muscle mass, speed recovery from exercise, and optimize the health and function of the gastrointestinal tract.
L-taurine enhances cardiac, ocular, and cognitive functions.
Alpha-lipoic acid is an organic compound produced in the mitochondria of the body cells. It functions as a type of catalyst for the enzymes to convert nutrients to energy. It also has powerful antioxidant properties. Most antioxidants are either water-soluble or fat-soluble, but alpha-lipoic acid is unique in that it is both water-soluble and fat-soluble, which is why it is able to function in each and every cell of the body. Its presence in the body helps to mitigate cellular damage.
Quercetin dihydrate powder is a type of phenolic compound referred to as a “flavonoid” that has strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have shown that human athletes consuming quercetin experienced improved lean body mass, hydration levels, calories burned at rest (i.e., basal metabolic rate), and total energy expenditure.
L-alanine contributes to optimal energy status of muscle, brain, and the central nervous system of the dog.
In the development of this next generation Go Dog® hydration formula, solubility in water is critical so as to be able to rapidly supply the dog with our unique blend of ingredients when they are at peak exercise or work activity. To accomplish this, one of the inactive ingredients present in the supplement, maltodextrin, is used as a carrier for the active functional ingredients. In addition, the most soluble forms of the active functional ingredients available are used in the preparation of the final product.
Questions & Answers
Go Dog is appropriate for any breed of dog that is active, no matter to what degree, especially in hot environments. Hydration is the single most important nutrient during activity and dogs are at an even higher risk when it’s hot. Virtually all metabolic reactions occur in the presence of water. Keep in mind that thirst is not an accurate indicator of fluid needs during activity! Dogs can be severely dehydrated, yet be too excited to drink water, or too stressed. Go Dog helps stabilize and replenish electrolytes and fluids that are depleted during activity with a mix of electrolytes and short-burst and long-range energy fuels designed to hydrate and help keep your dog in their performance safety zone. Proper hydration will keep your dog cool, healthy, and happy.
Go Dog is designed as a pre/during activity formula like a pre-workout drink for people. Drinks should be given in portioned amounts, depending on the size of the dog, before and during activity. An example would be walking or hiking. Give Go Dog prior to setting out, and during rest stops where a normal drink would be given. The amounts and intervals can be tailored for your dogs activity level. A 16-oz squirt style water bottle is perfect to pack if you keep it cool. The goal is to maintain effective levels throughout the activity period. This is accomplished by giving at regular intervals. Another example would be dog agility which is more strenuous on the dog. Go Dog can be given the night before the event, the morning of, just prior to run, and in-between runs. Give Go Dog portioned out throughout the day, this will keep the dog hydrated and keep energy and focus at peak. Similar events over several days are taxing on the dog. For optimal results or when events last several days our Super Fuel formula is a great addition to the dog’s end of day meal. Super Fuel will help speed recovery overnight.
As an example the 16-oz bottle can be divided into two servings for large dogs and 3-4 servings for medium to small dogs (or less for little ones). The amounts can be adjusted for your dogs size and exercise level. The key is to give consistently throughout the exercise period.
Go Dog will help to keep your dog hydrated. That said it would not benefit the dog if they won't drink it! Go Dog is meat based and tastes great, so dogs will happily drink it. We also knew it was critical to ensure Go Dog’s solubility in water to be able to rapidly supply the dog with our unique blend of ingredients as well as taste great!
Go Dog is designed to be given in a drink. This is critical for hydration and to ensure the dog benefits as quickly as possible while engaged in activity.
Go Dog needs to be kept cool or refrigerated. We recommend that the remainder of the mixed Go Dog be discarded after exercise or the event.
Our Go Dog formula is designed for dogs over 6 months of age. Our recommendation would be our Puppy Gold® formula. Puppy Gold® is formulated similarly to canine mothers’ milk to support your puppy’s development after weaning. Puppy Gold includes powerful ingredients that include the primary building blocks of muscle, bone, tendon, ligaments, articular cartilage and other connective tissues. Pups should remain on Puppy Gold until 12 months of age and transition to our other formulas.
It is certainly okay for you to give your dog more than one of our supplements. If you are using two supplements, we recommend splitting them between AM and PM meals. Anytime you start a new supplement, we recommend you introduce it slowly with ½ of the recommended amount and gradually work up to the full amount over 7-10 days. Once your dog acclimates to the first supplement, you can introduce the second one on the same starting schedule.
Our recommendation would be our Puppy Gold® formula. Puppy Gold® is not only formulated for puppies but the canine mother, too, benefits from ingestion of Puppy Gold throughout the course of gestation and lactation.
